Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE) Programme
The PSHCE programme is delivered in Years 7–13 by tutors on Monday Period 1. The programme is co-ordinated by the Heads of Year.
PSHE and Citizenship is also integrated in the curriculum in English, Geography, History, Maths and RE and lessons are taught by subject staff.

Aims
The aims of PSHE are to enable the students to:
• Know and understand what constitutes a healthy lifestyle
• Be aware of safety issues
• Understand what makes for good relationships with others
• Have respect for others regardless of race, gender and mental and physical disability
• Be independent and responsible members of the school community
• Be positive and active members of a democratic society
• Develop self-confidence and self-esteem and to make informed choices regarding personal and social issues
• Develop good relationships with other members of the school and wider community

Citizenship
The programme is statutory and aims to ensure that all pupils:
- acquire a sound knowledge and understanding of how the United Kingdom is governed, its political system and how citizens participate actively in its democratic systems of government
- develop a sound knowledge and understanding of the role of law and the justice system in our society and how laws are shaped and enforced
- develop an interest in, and commitment to, participation in volunteering as well as other forms of responsible activity, that they will take with them into adulthood
- are equipped with the skills to think critically and debate political questions, to enable them to manage their money on a day-to-day basis, and plan for future financial needs.Citizenship Education plays an important role in creating social cohesion and enabling an understanding of diverse communities.
